PPG earns Renault Global Design Award

The Renault Groupe, an international automobile manufacturer based in France, has awarded its first-ever Global Design Award to PPG and its automotive coatings team.

The award presentation occurred during a ceremony with Renault officials in Paris, France.

Each year, Renault presents an award to suppliers that have made an exceptional contribution to quality, innovation, corporate social responsibility or design. This year, PPG was the only Renault supplier to be honored with the design award based on its outstanding work related to the development of Rouge Flame.

Rouge Flame, an innovative color that uses a complex red clearcoat, has quickly risen to become one of the industry’s most popular red-based shades, second only to Ferrari reds. The color has been very well-received by the market and has reached an unprecedented 25% popularity level, an accomplishment no other red colors have ever achieved. Rouge Flame is exclusive to Renault and is available on several top-selling models, including the Clio 4, Twingo, Kadjar, Captur and New Megane.

“This color is a major achievement and marks an important step forward for high chroma colors in the automotive industry,” said Luis Aragon, global account director, Renault and PSA. “It demonstrates how high quality, attractive paint helps customers increase sales and strengthen their brand image. We are very proud of this award and its reflection of the solid and healthy partnership between Renault and PPG.”

Tim Knavish, senior vice president, automotive coatings, accepted the award on behalf of the PPG team from Laurens Van der Acker, senior vice president, corporate design, Renault. Véronique Sarlat-Depotte, global senior vice president, Alliance Purchasing, Thierry Bolloré, chief competitive officer, Renault, and other senior Renault officials also attended the award presentation.
